Steven Mace grew up in Golden Colorado. On a trip to Durango CO to visit Fort Lewis College he was invited on an over night river trip on the Colorado River. On this trip he sat in a kayak for the first time and his love for the river was born. He later returned to Durango where he received his undergraduate degree in Environmental Science and continued to push his kayaking. On summer vacations from college he worked as a river guide for Four Corners Rafting on the Arkansas River. Some of his favorite runs include Vallicito creak, the Arkansas River, Animas River, The Black canyon of the Gunnison River, and the Grand Canyon. In 2004 he was a member of an expedition taking 6 blind Tibetan teenagers trekking to the north side of Everest, the subject of the award-winning documentary “Blindsight”. He has done a number of trips with Erik including; the Apurimac, Yanatile, Urubamba, and Marañon Rivers of Peru, the main fork of the Salmon River in Idaho, as well as numerous stretches in Colorado and Utah. When Steve isn’t kayaking he works as a backcountry ski guide in the Wallowa Mountains of eastern Oregon.
